Owl Talon Torrent® Card Kits: The Lowest-SWaP Way to One-Way Transfer at up to 100 Gbps

Owl Talon Torrent® Card Kits: The Lowest-SWaP Way to One-Way Transfer at up to 100 Gbps

Moving mission-critical data one-way without opening a path back in: that’s the job. And for over 25 years, Owl has gotten better at it with each innovation: leading the market in throughput speeds, protocol support, extensibility, and multi-layer hardening evaluated against the most rigorous standards in government. Now, we’ve raised the bar again with Owl Talon Torrent® card kits, our next-generation, high-speed Protocol Filtering Diode (PFD), now available as a standalone card kit, bringing Owl’s fastest, most advanced PFD directly into your own servers and existing infrastructure.

Owl Talon Torrent: Our Fastest, Lowest-SWaP Data Diode

Until now, U.S. Government-validated, one-way transfer at up to 100 Gbps was only possible by racking a full Owl Talon Torrent appliance. Now, with the launch of our latest configuration, it’s possible via a card pair you slot into infrastructure you’re already running.

The card kit configuration of Owl Talon Torrent isn’t a scaled-down version of the appliance. It enforces the same one-way transfer assurance, just in a form factor better suited for direct integration into your own COTS hardware and software environment. By installing the kit (a send card and a receive card) directly into your own chassis, operators gain high-speed, protocol-aware, one-way transfer of ISR feeds, sensor data, or command-and-control traffic between OT/classified and IT/lower-side networks, backed by the same government-validated assurance as the appliance, but without taking over the entire server in which it is installed.

With an Owl Talon Torrent card kit, critical infrastructure and OT teams can replicate historian and SCADA data out of control networks for remote monitoring, with no path back in. Data-heavy programs can feed data lakes and AI/ML pipelines at up to 100 Gbps without compromising one-way security. And anyone who wants Owl’s validated protection built into their own servers, rather than bolted on as a separate box, now has that option. That lowers size, weight, power (SWaP), and cost while giving customers more control over the hardware their diode runs on. Because the kit is available in both 10 Gbps and 100 Gbps configurations, the same architecture scales from focused, single-stream use cases up to full line-rate, high-volume transfer.

Whatever the workflow, Owl Talon Torrent card kits are built to meet you where you are. Teams embedding Owl Talon Torrent directly into their own applications get a documented driver/API for bare-metal reads and writes; users passing TCP or UDP streams realize standalone command-line adaptors built for speed; Apache NiFi shops get a native processor that drops into existing pipelines; and missions that just need to move files get a guided, easy-to-set-up transfer path via Owl’s RFTS software.

V7 Did the Job. Owl Talon Torrent Does It Better.

For years, Owl’s V7 card kits have been the card kit standard for one-way transfer across government and critical infrastructure networks. Owl Talon Torrent builds on that foundation with faster throughput, tighter file and stream control, and integrations V7 was never built to support.

  • Improved streaming: Where Owl’s V7 cards manage TCP and UDP through SNTS, Owl Talon Torrent takes a different approach with native, high-speed TCP/UDP adaptors. For customers who need dedicated streams, that means a simpler, lighter-weight setup instead of carrying SNTS’s setup and management complexity for traffic they don’t have.
  • File transfer: V7’s DFTS mirrors a directory structure as it finds it, moving files across as-is. Owl’s RFTS builds on that with a faster, more modern transfer engine optimized for higher-bandwidth links.
  • Native NiFi processor: Torrent will offer a NiFi processor, letting customers plug the diode directly into an existing Apache NiFi pipeline. Teams already standardized on NiFi will get the diode’s one-way assurance along with NiFi’s built-in flow orchestration, transformation, and data provenance tracking — watch for more on this soon.
  • Validated performance at scale: Torrent has completed U.S. Government diode evaluation and delivers throughput up to 100 Gbps, with a driver/API for bare-metal integrations on the roadmap shortly after launch. V7 cards topped out at 10 Gbps.

One Data Diode Suite, Every One-Way Transfer Requirement

Owl Talon Torrent card kits aren’t starting from scratch on trust. They’re built on a track record where Owl already checks every box:

U.S. Government evaluation? Check.
Hardware-enforced, protocol-aware one-way security? Check.
Multi-layer security to block unauthorized access? Check.
Adaptable for an extensive set of one-way use cases, from portable field collection to remote access to high-speed AI and data lake ingestion? Check.

With flexible deployment options, Owl PFDs adapt to any one-way use case as requirements evolve.

  • Need an all-in-one appliance for one-way transfer at up to 100 Gbps? Owl Talon Torrent is also available in rack-mounted configurations.
  • Need a compact, all-in-one appliance for everyday OT/IT one-way transfer? Owl Talon One is built to move logs, files, and telemetry securely between networks, with no inbound threat exposure.
  • Need something for the field instead of the network closet? Owl’s Incident Response Diode (IRD) is a pocket-sized PFD built for pulling evidence off compromised endpoints over standard USB, preserving chain of custody without exposing the clean analysis environment.

Whatever the mission, there’s an Owl PFD built for it.

Take the Next Step in High-Speed, Low-SWaP One-Way Security

Owl Talon Torrent gives you the same government-validated, hardware-enforced one-way protection Owl is known for, now built to live inside the infrastructure you already run. Whether you’re scaling past V7’s throughput ceiling, standardizing on NiFi, or deploying your first PFD, our team can help you find the right fit.
